Why we build on Synology

Synology delivers business-grade data protection at a price that makes sense even for smaller companies - and the hardware is always available.

Great price

Business-grade data protection for a fraction of the cost of enterprise systems. Lower upfront and running costs.

Market availability

A widespread vendor. Units, drives and spare parts are available quickly, without long waits.

License-free backup

Active Backup protects servers, PCs and Microsoft 365 with no per-device or per-user fees.

Protection built in

Immutable snapshots and WORM folders are part of the storage, with no add-on software.

A copy in an EU cloud

Encrypted backup to Synology C2 with data centers in Europe, or to a second unit.

Simple management

A clear DSM web interface, automatic updates and long-term vendor support.

What you can use Synology for

A single device can replace a file server, backup software and a company cloud.

Company files in one place

Central storage instead of scattered drives and shares. With access rights, file versioning and remote access.

Backing up the whole company

PCs, servers, virtual machines and Microsoft 365 backed up automatically, with no per-device licenses.

Backup target for virtualization

Cost-effective storage for VMware and Hyper-V backups, with the option to start a server directly from backup.

Branches and remote offices

Local storage at the branch, synchronized to headquarters or the cloud.

Product lines

We choose the model based on the number of users, data volume and whether you have a server room. The exact configuration is tailored to you.

DiskStation

Desktop NAS

Compact office devices that don't need a server room. Quiet operation, simple management and room to grow capacity.

Best for
Smaller businesses and branches, file sharing, PC backup.
  • 2 - 12 drives
  • SSD cache
  • Optional 10GbE

RackStation

Rackmount storage

More powerful systems for a server rack. Redundant power supplies, expandable disk arrays and higher performance for more users.

Best for
Businesses with a server room, virtualization, central backup target.
  • Redundant PSU
  • Expansion units
  • 10/25GbE

FlashStation

All-flash storage

SSD-only storage for applications that need low latency - virtual servers, databases and demanding working data.

Best for
Virtualization, databases, working with large files.
  • SAS / NVMe SSD
  • Low latency
  • Inline compression

High-capacity systems

HD and SA series

Solutions for hundreds of terabytes up to petabytes of data - archives, video and long-term backup retention.

Best for
Archiving, large data volumes, long-term retention.
  • High density
  • Capacity scaling

Key technologies

Everything essential is built into the DSM operating system, with no per-user or per-device licenses.

Active Backup for Business
Back up Windows and Linux servers, PCs, VMware and Hyper-V, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace from a single console. The license is included with the device.
Immutable snapshots and WriteOnce
Snapshots on the Btrfs file system can be locked for a set period. Shared folders in WORM mode protect data from modification and deletion.
Hyper Backup and Synology C2
Encrypted backup to a second device, to Synology C2 cloud in Europe or to any S3 storage. Backups are deduplicated and versioned.
Snapshot Replication
Replicate snapshots to a second device at another site. In an outage, operations can switch over to the replica.
Synology High Availability
Two units in active-passive mode. If the primary unit fails, the standby takes over services automatically.
Synology Drive
Sync and share files across computers and mobile devices, with file versioning and your own company storage instead of a public cloud.
Access security
Two-factor authentication, Active Directory integration, volume encryption and regular DSM security updates.
Data resilience
The Btrfs file system with data integrity checks, RAID arrays and SSD cache for higher performance.

Synology NAS FAQ

Which Synology NAS should a business choose?

It depends on the number of users, data volume and growth, and whether you have a server room. A smaller office is usually well served by a desktop DiskStation; for companies with a server room and virtualization we recommend a rackmount RackStation with redundant power. We design the model, drives and RAID after a short analysis of your data.

How much does a Synology NAS for business cost?

The price depends mainly on the model, the number and capacity of drives and the required redundancy. We prepare a tailored quote including drives, licenses, installation and management, so you compare total cost, not just the device price.

Can a NAS replace a company file server?

Yes. Synology provides shared folders for Windows and Mac, access rights via Active Directory, file versioning and secure remote access. We migrate data from your old server or drives for you.

Does NAS backup protect data from ransomware?

Only when configured correctly. We use immutable snapshots that cannot be deleted even with admin rights, separated access and an off-site copy following the 3-2-1 rule.

Which RAID should I use on a Synology NAS?

With four or more drives we recommend RAID 6 or SHR-2, which survive two simultaneous drive failures. RAID is not a backup though - you still need a separate copy on another device or in the cloud.

Can a Synology NAS be backed up to the cloud?

Yes. With Hyper Backup we create encrypted backups to Synology C2 cloud with data centers in Europe, or to any S3 storage.
